The Run with the Fuzz in Bellingham has
grown into more than just another 5k on the schedule. The downtown race, which supports
families of fallen police officers through the Behind the Badge Foundation,
has grown to over 1000 finishers, a cash purse and some fast times on both
the men’s and women’s sides in just 3 short years.
On Saturday the women’s race was won by Amber Morrison of Bellingham in around 18:15(some results are missing and will be updated later) which allowed her to claim $500 as the top female. It was incorrectly reported earlier today that Ariana Lee won on Saturday. Lee, who
was stepping down in distance as she recently was 3rd Overall at the
Ft. Ebey Trail Marathon and 13th on the women’s side at the annually
epic Chuckanut 50k, was 2nd behind Morrison in a time of 18:51. The women's race was very
competitive as the Top 6 finishers broke 20:00.
Charlie
Sunderlage(Saucony/Klick’s), also coming off of some longer racing
success(2012 Orcas Island 25k and 2011 Baker Lake 50k, both victories), sped to
a course record as he returned to the Bellingham Police Department in 15:20
to pick up his $500 prize. Sunderlage, the 2009 Seattle Marathon Champion, will
see a busy May as he will be racing the Vancouver Half Marathon on May 6th
and then take up the downhill running duties for the Klick’s Racing Team at Ski
to Sea at the end of the month. The men’s race was also deep with competition
as the Top 5 finishers were separated by just over a minute.
